The operation of biogas generators relies on a tight process loop. Organic wastewater is decomposed by microorganisms in anaerobic tanks to produce biogas. The biogas is then purified by desulfurization, dehydration, and other purification systems to meet engine combustion standards before entering the cylinder, where it is ignited by a spark plug to drive the piston to generate electricity. Modern biogas generator sets often adopt single fuel or dual fuel (biogas diesel) designs, which have a high degree of automation and safety. Taking the biogas cogeneration project of Beijing Gaobeidian Reclaimed Water Plant as an example, the project uses biogas generated by anaerobic digestion of sludge to generate electricity, which not only meets 22% of the plant's self use electricity demand, but also recovers the waste heat generated by the generator for sludge hydrolysis and plant heating. This "cogeneration" model achieves a comprehensive thermal efficiency of over 80%, significantly reducing the cost of purchasing electricity and carbon emissions, and is a model for low-carbon operation of urban environmental infrastructure.
